SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE BY NIEL DE JONG
I
NIEL DE JONG

Niel de Jong studied at Unitec School of Architecture, and subsequently tutored there in 2003 and 2004. Both during his studies, as a mentor to others and in his own practice, Niel has been at the forefront of developing sustainable homes for New Zealand's unique environment; and this work is complemented by his deep understanding of New Zealand social and architectural history.

Niel has a particular interest in indigenous New Zealand architecture, and was instrumental in setting up the Maori design studio at Unitec. He believes that using natural, renewable materials in homes is not only good for the environment; it is good for the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of those who live and spend time in these buildings.

Niel is a contributing author of "Carbon Neutral by 2020: How New Zealanders Can Respond to Climate Change"
